Development and Validation of Gastric Cancer Associated Autoantibody Test for Early Gastric Cancer Detection

  • Funding source: Lithuania–Latvia-Taiwan Research Programme
  • Grant agreement number: TAP LLT 04/2014
  • Date: January 2014 – January 2016
  • Description: The main goal of the project is to evaluate the diagnostic value of autoantibodies associated with gastric cancer for early detection of the disease in two independent populations characterized by a high incidence of gastric cancer. The study focuses on biological material—specifically blood serum—collected from patients with gastric cancer or precancerous conditions and from control groups residing in the Baltic countries (Lithuania and Latvia) and East Asia (Taiwan). The project aims to: (1) develop a recombinant antigen microarray for detecting autoantibodies associated with gastric cancer and assess its performance; (2) evaluate and validate the diagnostic value of the selected autoantibody panel in a clinical case-control study conducted in the Baltic countries and Taiwan; (3) assess the diagnostic performance of the autoantibody panel in combination with other serological markers, such as Helicobacter pylori and pepsinogens I and II, by integrating results from different testing methods; and (4) determine the prognostic value of the autoantibody panel through analysis of clinical and histological data from patients.
